Little pink lady

I was invited by the local playgroup to come along and take some pictures of the kids in the church hall,so after a discussion on what they wanted off i went with two backdrops and my trusted E3 12-60 combo,This is little Sophie and i hope her Mum likes it as they are all excited to see the results.Your opinions please are welcome,im a little dissapointed on how it looks on here but nothing i can do.Thanks in advance

Apart from her expression of wanting to curl up and die, I think it's pretty good. However, I don't like the pink background with her red dress. I think white or black would have been better. Or maybe light grey.

But I'll bet her parents will be ecstatic!

Everyone knew the colours I was bringing so parents choice of clothes Unfortunetly,must admit though a don't see her expression of wanting to curl up and die,maybe you can expand on your thoughts.

Good to see that you are working down at their height, I see all too many "tops of head" shots of children.

It is a bit heavy in the "RED" part of the spectrum, but as you say that was beyond your control.

The exposure looks good and the twin lighting works well for this type of shoot. Personally I prefer a key light and a fill light, which I often achieve by feathering one of the lights to give a slightly unbalanced ratio.

A tighter composition/crop would give her more presence in the image and not appear so small. You have achieved excellent detail in the subject and the dress, it seems a shame not to give her and the dress more prominence.

I'm thinking that look is one of "This is my new bracelet, I got it for Christmas"

They weren't the right words, and I couldn't think of the right ones. Bashful would be a better word, a bit awed by your presence. I've often see that with kiddie shots. I just thought it would have been nice if she had been smiling, so much more engaging. As Graham says, it has everything else going for it except the over abundance of red/pink shades! But it's a nice portrait, and as I said, I bet her parents will love it.

BTW - a thought. I wonder how it would look if you did a colour swap on the background?

Which is pretty much what I did with the two Js. Gives more modelling, doesn't it? (But I like low-key portraits)
