  • Obligatory Fungs Picture 2014

Took the kids out to the woods on Sunday to allow them to run around after being cooped up all week in School or doing homework. Gave me an opportunity to take the obligatory fungus picture. Was quite a manky, damp dull day so high ISO required under the trees.

    taken with My E-620 and the 40-150 in aperture mode @ 123mm, F7.1, 1/40s, ISO3200

Was trying to stalk the squirrels, but the kids were making too much noise. lesson learned, do not point out that there are squirrels until you have taken your pictures.

                Re: Obligatory Fungs Picture 2014

I should've commented on the shot - sorry! Although quite noisy I was amazed that the 620 did so well at ISO 3200, I don't think I ever went above 800 with mine.
However the shot would definitely benefit from low ISO and use of a tripod for a longer exposure - not something you can usually do in the company of excited kids :-)

Must admit I am tempted to bunk off work and go back on my own and take my time.

                    Re: Obligatory Fungs Picture 2014

I have a similar problem with both kids and springer spaniels with me most of the time - I need a big zoom as the kids and dogs chase the squirrels up a tree before I can get a shot most of the time! It is a very pleasant change to get out by myself with the camera, I think you should take the long way home and get your shots without the company!

Great image by the way - it is surprising how good an image you can get with high iso on that sensor (I'm pretty sure it is the same as my E-30) - you might have been able to go for a slightly longer exposure if you moved closer and reduced your focal length, I am often surprised how well images come out at 1/15th at around 50mm with the IS on.

                    Cheers,

                    Ralph.

                      Re: Obligatory Fungs Picture 2014

I would have had a couple of goes with different focal lengths / exposure times but I didn't have a tripod & they wanted to move on to a hot chocolate (at my expense!).

The woods are the opposite direction to home, besides I don't fancy trapsing through a dark, damp wood in my suit and brogues.

....and of course spending money on everyone else comes before new gear....
