  • Boxing day on a beach

I went to see my son in a pram race down the coast after that silliness I went to the beach at sunset.

The tide was high and this is what I got as well a as lot of sea spray.

    Hi there Alf!

You don't make it easy for us do you?

For the first image I really like the way the line of the groynes leads you into the picture to the reflection of the sunset, and that you have managed to get both the near and far waves breaking at the right moment, the only possible improvement I can suggest (personal opinion only) is maybe to lift the shadows slightly on the groyne to give a little more texture to the wood?

For the second image I like the composition, but I think the exposure is a little too long, with the sea a little too milky so it looses definintion too much. I'd also be interested to see a shot with just the pile of stones and the water flowing around them. I love the moody clouds though!

For the third image I'm stuck - the shutter speed for me is perfect this time giving great definition to the waves whilst also showing the power and speed. There just doesn't seem to be one point of interest which the eye is drawn to - the pile of rocks this time is less of a point of interest as it isn't isolated from the rest of the shore.

For the fourth image there seems something out of kilter in the composition to me - possibly because the eye is drawn past the centre of the image by the groyne. It could also be because the lines of the waves and the line of the top of the groyne are almost but not quite parallel. Here the long exposure also calms the waves but this seems to suit the image.

These are my opinions - I do not pretend to be able to critically assess other peoples photography but you have asked for any comments so here are mine for what they are worth. I hope they are of some assistance to you. In the mean time keep the seascapes coming and don't get too cold and wet!

    Cheers,

    Ralph.

        Thanks all for the comments

The pram race does not seem to have many prams a wheelchair, sack truck and a boat on wheels come to mind

Interresting to see what you thinlk Ralph thanks for taking thetime.

John I know what you mean about blurred water being over used by many and it is becoming a cliche IMO but I do some image that way but not many.

Think that what Ralph means is you give us a very high standard to try and achieve, Alf, and that is what I think, too
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

            Hi there Alf!

I was suggesting that as your seascapes are far superior to mine it's very hard for me to tell you where an improvement can be made!

That doesn't mean I won't try, but don't worry if my suggestions are odd or just plain wrong. You keep them coming and I'll try my best to give an honest (if possibly misguided) opinion.

            Cheers,

            Ralph.

Try all you wish and I appreciate it I really do.

But remember I will not be posting much at all in FF from now on as I no longer wish to ask people to step outside the rules of the forum when commenting on my work.

That doesn't mean I think these are awful by the way but you can tel me what you think openly without any comeback from me or anyone else.

                Hi Alf!

I certainly didn't think they were aweful - hence my first comment!

                Cheers,
