  • HELP - Which One Says "Abstract?"

I want to enter a competition with the theme of "Abstracts." Which one of these, if any, do you think best suits the theme? Thank you.

In the modern terms of the genre, number 4.

        #2 for sure.

But I'd crop it to remove the top "un-puddled" section. More abstract like that...

I'm sure you know what I mean John, but could show you if asked

            They're all good.

In answer to your question, I would plump for 4 or 1, but.. er.. I like 2 the most!

                Hi there John!

If it wasn't for the thin ribbon of clear glass I would definately say picture 1, but I think number 2 has it, especially with the crop suggested above.

                Cheers,

                Ralph

                    Thanks guys,

A bit of divided opinion, which may mean that none of them really stands out, but some concensus seems to be forming for No 2.

                    Does this help?

                    Or this?

                    Thanks again.

Number 2 for me too, and I'm glad that's the consensus.

Now of your two crops : top one.

Now you mention it, John, I prefer the upside-down version.

Re: HELP - Which One Says "Abstract?"

Hmm, I think/fear Stephen may have hit the nail on the head.
However that all depends on what the judges think of as "abstract".

I keep being drawn back to No 2.
My initial reaction to this was, as others to crop off the top.
However this leaves the image (to my engineer's brain) looking "top heavy" and likely to fall over. No doubt your brain said something similar which is why you tried inverting it. This didn't work for me as I'm now troubled by the "clear water" parts of the image and the fact that the predominant "pointed shapes" in the image are pointing upwards.

So.... My next thought is to take your first (non inverted) crop and crop the bottom to remove the "clear water". This then leaves my brain (which is hurting by now) being more aware that the pattern is very nearly, but not quite symmetrical. Since less is often more maybe perhaps a further small crop of the RHS would even it up.

I'm now worried that too much cropping will eventually leave you with nothing so I'll stop now.

Of course you could always change your name to Gu**ky .

                          Regards.

On a second visit and after more thought, I would choose no. 3. But picking anything to suit any judge is always subjective and given the theme I suspect it can't be any better than a crap-shoot.

Not that I would ever suggest you are a crap shooter, John
