Snapped this earlier and at first look I didn't like it thinking it was a really mediocre shot but I keep coming back to it. The ethereal greens in the background offset against the red are really starting to grow on me.
What do you guys think? I am seeing something that isn't there?
Green and Red do make a pleasing combination but on this I feel the centre stage should go to the flower itself.
It looks a touch dark so we are missing the detail.
Purely on a personal front I think there's a lot of stuff that is not needed and I ended up with the obvious single bloom....

Had another go and took offthe stem on the right as well.

I don't very often comment in lfi as I still think I need plenty, but here are my thoughts anyway.
I agree with your comment regarding the colour of the green background and I think the flower contrasts well against it. What I do find distracting is the foliage to the right and this keeps drawing my eye, and then I see the bud almost touching the flower. If this was mine I'd try a vertical or square crop to reduce some of the distractions and emphasise the flower and the super greenery.
OK Rob here goes.
First off I think there is far too much picture. A fairly hard crop to about 1" all round the
flower would improve it no end. Unfortunately I find the bud immediately below the main flower very distracting, also the second bloom below that.
On the up side I know where you are coming from and appreciate what you are trying to do. I would also like to have seen the main bloom a wee bit brighter.
Guys, very happy with all the comments. I wasn't really going for anything when I started out, I was playing the DoF on a lens I hadn't used for a while. I had rejected it twice straight into the bin pile. What keeps me coming back to it is all the clutter in the background rather than the flower in centre.
Ian suggested a different centre piece which I think is a cool idea but overall I will count this as a miss.
