I used a white Bg, So I selected "most" of it so the Black would be a radom pattern...I am learning to use "Drop-In" BGs..I know the hair is the toughest part to get right



Any editting suggestions..OK..I use Paint Shop Pro 10.03...NOT PS..So try to keep the explainations more generic in nature. PSP 10.03 has many, many features, I am sure I translate them into PSP terms.

The biggest problem you have here is your selection technique as it is leaving a hard edged line of white pixals around the selection.

You need to contract your selection and aldo add a little feathering to the selection.

I have no idea where these tools are in PSP.

Here i just reselcted and cut the image out again using the magic extractor in Elements 6 then used the refine edges tool to get rid of the white edges.
you could also try the defringe command if you have it in PSP.

The quality of this example is not good as I was working with a low res jpeg that had already had a background applied as opposed to the original file.

It's certainly better without the fringing, but I also think that the texture of the drop in background is too busy and maybe needs bluring and toning down.

Hmm, I'm not really sure about the background, it looks almost like a slab of granite and seems, somehow, too close to the model. I wouldn't know how to fix it though.

I am trying what you suggest..but I still have stray or broken hair strands..I Get the BG Pure White, than I clone over (with white BG) the broken strands..but when I drop in a black BG, w/"0" featuring, I get a halo still..But only where I have removed or smoothed out the hairline (I use a hardness on my brush of around 30 (0=soft edge, 100 = Hard edge)...I will have to try 100 I guess.

I have a tool that can take out color fringes,,Maybe I can the change the color ??

Will Get back after a little more experimenting

OK, I tried a different photo with not so fly away hair. and used a Selection tool with a 6 pixel Feather and a 14 Tolerence to select the not so white BG..(I'll need to start lighting up the BG with white)...It turned out better
