I don't do much B&W at all, but sorning out come old pictures that didn't work as well as i had hoped in colour I thought why not give some variations a go so I spent a bit of time whilst stuck at home this morning having a go
So I thought to ask those of you who do operate in this formation, do any work ? if not why not?
Regards
Andy

I really like your first one. For me removing colour is primarily about prioritising shapes and this image has a strong shape formed by the poles. Black and white also suits some moods and here it emphasises a quiet solitude. The third reason I like black and white is you can dramtically alter the shade of each component, and without seeing the original I don’t know if you’ve done that, but the pool of light around the figure and poles emphasises them. You could have muted the clouds or if a straight b&w conversion done nothing but I like that they’re there but not dominant.

You are right that I was looking at the shape here. I didn't remove clouds as there was only the low ones on the horizon.
The original (below) was shot into the sun -0.5 ev and I darkened the sky and in this I just lightened the foreground to make the bottom of the persson and rods stad out a bit more

I definitely think the black and white version is an improvement of an already good image that is almost monochrome anyway. Actually the clouds are more obvious in the black and white version but still muted which in my view is just right.
I really like the first two and like the third. They have enough shape and texture to stand up well in B&W. The first and third are peaceful, the second is dynamic. Not so sure about the last one, to me it doesn't seem to have much in the way of shape. The textures in the tree and sky are nice but they don't add up to a complete picture, to me at least.
Thanks for sharing them, it is interesting to see.
The first two are almost B/W anyway, as they are contra jour. Excellent work. ..The last two don't work so well, as there are many mid tones there. We all used to do B/W as that was all we could afford, or had skills for, so they all have a place to be exhibited....
The Om3 is great for being able to take pictures that are different using the quick and easily accessible creative dial on the front. You can position this to your commonly used settings in advance, as well making easy changes in the field.
I like the third photo it give a real sense of being drawn up the track. I think colour would add distraction.
