Watch the weather

We should have watched the weather whilst at Grytviken rather than the wildlife.
Eyes in the top of your head as well as the back.
Anyway, a wee zodiac cruise in Hercules Bay.
Most were shot on the TG-5 due to the conditions

Didn't look good to start with



but round we went, lots of Kelp below the surface which meant being careful not to clog the propellor.
Nice waterfall with lots of fur seals and a few penguins



round the corner a colony of Macaroni penguins (5th species)





and joy 2, the South Georgia Pipit.
These are making a comeback on the main island as they were severely predated by rats and mice, now removed.



It wasn't a sunny cruise



but eventually it cleared up .... a bit.
This picture has at least 7 birds flying over the water to give an idea that it is by no means devoid of wildlife.

Hondius. Not an icebreaker but ice strengthened. There is a nice shot of her in the arches competition and in on of the next posts another cracker.
A Dutch company, Oceanwide, They also have Ortelius, Plancius and Rembrandt van Rijn, the last being a sailing cruiser.
Currently in the High Arctic. They will shortly move south for the southern summer.
