  • Fungus Stilbella byssiseda Parasitic on Slime Mould Metatrichia floriformis

Our local fungus recording group was surveying a wood where conifer trunks laid on the ground were well-rotted. One of these had this relationship which we had not seen before.

    Olympus EM-1 (manual mode), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, f11, triple flash hand-held. (Studio session).

The FOV in the images is 7mm wide or less.

The stereos are crosseye and conventional.

I have updated the species name. This one feeds on slime moulds, others on dung.

After reading your titles Harold I always open your posts with trepidation.......... Fungus Stilbella byssiseda Parasitic on Slime Mould Trichia decipiens var olivacea

All good stuff, but it does go a little over my head.

I open them with fascination. A world that is almost subliminal.
Its funny but with age I am beginning to wish I had done Latin at school. I see it is available on Duolingo. Then I might understand the names a bit more.

More likely to grow under your feet.

I did a couple of years of Latin at school but no Greek but I have learned a lot of both from biology/taxonomy. I didn't learn any German bit I translated a springtail key from Swiss German (which I was told is a difficult version) into English. I picked up bits of Spanish and Italian from scientific papers. Not much of this helps a tourist abroad!
