Hedgehog at dusk

During the afternoon I noticed I had a Hedgehog sleeping and occasionally active in the quite overgrown garden border.

I put out some food and water for it and around 9:30pm it became more active and emerged from the shrubbery for some eats and a drink. It looks to be healthy and happily roamed around the garden at dusk even though I was concerned about it being occasionally active during the daytime which is unusual. I probably won't be "tidying up" the garden for a while as it might well have a nest somewhere, I'm happy with that!

I took these through an open window with the OM-1 and 100-400mm as I did not want to go outside and disturb it.

Thanks Dennis. The trick here seems to be to not keep the garden over-tidy and let things grow. Some neighbours here seem to cover their gardens entirely in patio or a membrane covered in loose stones with no plants at all, I suppose the Hedgehog found itself a refuge in mine!

Next Door (both sides) have grass as tall as 3ft. My Garden has No Grass except what keeps sneaking into my garden from theirs..I got lots of flowers (No Concrete) and garden is Iggly Piggly lol In other words, a bit Untidy but the cats in this area Loves it. (the bug*ers). I could do with a few Hedgehogs to stick their prickles into the cats. he he. I will be putting up a light outside soon, so might see a Hedgehog if I'm Lucky.

Lovely photos Bill. I usually catch my hedgehog during the night with a trail camera. Sitting outside at dusk is an option I might try....:-)

Thanks Mark. I think June is a good month for this - they seem to come out when it is still light enough for photos. This one does anyway, maybe it is an insomniac HH!
