Gulls don't like pochards

I was photographing a male pochard having a bath:


A black headed gull took exception to the spray and started harassing him. He fled:


The gull followed; the only way the pochard could escape was by diving:


The gull abandoned the chase, and he decided to keep a low profile. Peace at last:

That is a good set.

I wondered if the gull thought the Pochard had caught something it could steal? I often see the Black Headed gulls stealing a catch off the Great Crested Grebes - as soon as a grebe surfaces they are on it. Gulls are a bit stupid so they might just mob any bird that surfaces!

I've seen b.h. gulls try to steal fish off a goosander too, but I tend to agree with Chris (below). They just like causing trouble.
