After a good night's sleep, I woke up by the rain hammering on the roof of the hotel. Good thing I took the chance yesterday evening... That heavy rain kept me company during the long drive to my next destination, lake Ånnsjön. Located about halfway between the famous ski resort Åre and the Norwegian border, the area is rich with birdlife and home to some nice species: Great snipe, Red-necked phalarope, Scoter, Black-throated loon, Curlew, Eurasian dotterel to mention a few. I had done some research ahead of the trip and planned an itinerary to reach the hottest spots but by now I knew that was not going to happen. Early morning I made a half-hearted attempt to venture into the terrain but the flooded trails prevented me from entering the area beyond a pond close to the road. Dull light and rain were preventing meaningful photography of subjects beyond 50 meters as everything was engulfed in a greyish haze. I deployed my portable hide (it's reasonably waterproof) and got some photos of ducks but that's about it. Back to the hotel for breakfast time and then hit the road again for the final leg, four hour's drive to Lauvsnes.
