About forty Turnstones were wandering about in the sunshine on Gorleston pier a couple of days ago. I had removed the 1.4 converter from my 300mm f4 to gain an extra stop of light and was surprised how much quicker the focusing seemed to be. I was hoping to see some Sanderlings but they haven't appeared there yet this winter.
I have never seen a Purple Sand there, although the very occasional one has been reported. I always scan the granite blocks on the Yarmouth side of the harbour mouth, as it looks to be ideal habitat, but so far no luck.

An excellent set Ron. you got very close to them, or the other way round...:-))
Thanks Mark. They are used to people so they come very close, especially if it is cold and they think that they might be fed . In fact, a lot of the time they come too close and I have to back away to fit them in the frame. That is one of the reasons why I removed the teleconverter on this occasion. I just wish we got a few different birds there as I am there three or four times a week.
Many thanks for the kind comments and 'likes'. When I saw them today they had been joined by a single Sanderling but I didn't have my camera with me. I will attempt to get some photos the next time we have a sunny day.

Very nice shots, love to see Turnstones. We are off on a trip to Suffolk soon, I’m not sure if we will have time to get that far north but Ness Point is on the list I think.
Worth a diversion for: during winter Purple Sandpiper & Turnstone pretty much guaranteed on the breakwater right at Ness Point or the neighbouring sea defences and reasonable chance of Black Redstart either on/around the industrial (SLP) warehouses or the wind turbine yard.
