  • Osprey - yet again

As the Osprey is well overdue to vacate the local area I thought I'd book the morning off work just to try capture some more pics - am forever in hope of capturing a dive shot alas it wasn't meant to be.

They are migratory are they not? Is this a stop-over?

Yes they are and this should be well on its way to Africa by now.

A great opportunity which you made the most of Matt. It's interesting to see it with the little Pike.

                      Thanks.

Yes it is, so I can't see it staying too much longer but who knows.

I wonder if this could be the one Tordan photographed at the beginning of the week.
Somebody should have a close look at the plumage and it might be.
Its known from satellite tagging that immatures have a tendency to migrate with a Southwesterly bent.
They also cover ground remarkably fast.

Had a second look, they are different birds.
They can be late, I saw one in late October in the Ardennes several years ago.

I believe it's the same bird I photographed a short while ago a few miles away....its not travelled very far in that time.

Whilst i enjoy seeing it i do hope it moves on soon as the area where it is at is getting a beating from the footfall and people being people trying to get the best view.

I have been following some of the posts of Osprey sightings in South Yorkshire and the breeding pair in North Yorkshire. Great that they are seen again in this part of the country.
                        Excellent set.

                          Hi,

The one I photographed link: (https://www.e-group.uk.net/forum/forum/show-your-photos/foto-fair/birds/895869-elvis-has-left-the-building) left the site during the night between the 18 and 19 October. From the site to Yorkshire it's almost 1000 km as the crow flies and also in the wrong direction considering its wintering site is probably Western Africa.
