This Buzzard was feeding on the carcass of a goose at Carlton Marshes yesterday. These are big crops as it was a long way off (the last shot shows the entire scene at 420mm.) A warden we met thought the goose might have died of bird flu, which is affecting the reserve at the moment. I don't know if it is a good bad thing if scavengers are clearing the remains of diseased birds.

Nice shots Ron, looks good on the largest crop, did you try the first one on a tighter crop? Yes it is worrying whether there is consequences feeding off the remains of dead diseased birds.
This bird flu is quite a worry especially with tons of pheasants now probably being released and chased all over the place despite restrictions being placed on the poultry industry and bird keepers in East Anglia.
About time all the exceptions that breeding & releasing of millions of live targets were removed in line with other farmed creatures. I have few problems with traditional rough shooting "for the pot" but the release of tens of millions (the numbers are almost unbelievable) of living creatures just so a few wealthy individuals can blast as many as possible to bits with many corpses just left to rot is obscene on all levels - not least the impact they have on food availability of wild birds. And on bird flu why on earth is it OK to release these tame birds (beaters required to get most of them off the ground as apparently it isn't sporting to shoot them as they run around) while I've just spent 2 days constructing a securely covered run for our dozen or so free range chickens! Rant over.
