Carolina Wren

The Carolina Wren is a small bird with a big voice. They are quite common and I like having them around.

They often build their nests in unusual locations. I've had them in my flower pots, in my gutters that have leaf guards over them, in a wreath on the front door and an old straw hat that was decorated and hanging on a back door.

All of the shots have been heavily cropped, lightly post processed and I removed some twigs.

I particularly like the last shot. Always fascinating to see a distant cousin of a familiar British species. It's even got the same 'mighty midget' attitude of our Jenny Wren.

Nice shots of this smart wren Joe. As you say, it has a much larger voice! For years I used to watch the highlights of the US Masters golf on TV without realising what the bird making all the noise around "Amen corner" (in particular) was in the background until I learnt the song on one of my visits to Ottawa - even though it is right on the edge of its range there!
