Ah yes the bird, she stood me up! The night before I'd been scouting for a Barn Owl around dusk and a female / ringtail Hen Harrier flew over on a shallow glide path. I thought it might have roosted in an adjacent field which has good cover so I got up early to watch over the field from before dawn as we had one doing the same last January and I watched it fly out of the roost several times. No luck and frozen feet but the crescent moon was a bonus! The scrub field we had one roosting in last year has been cut otherwise the job would have been easy, it likely would have gone there.
Harrier headed over the trees, you can just see the white rump
Mega-crop for the ID confirm
I'm waiting for the county bird recorder to get on my case as I did a BTO rare bird sightings report...
