Some old mill buildings

Some photos I took on a walk from our Bedfordshire village just into South Cambridgeshire. Quite interesting as there was initially a water mill on the river (the Rhee, a tributary to the River Cam), then a steam mill was added hence the chimney. Later a Windmill was built nearby. Researching the history I found out the water mill dated from the 18th century and the windmill was added in 1835. Milling stopped in 1935 and the buildings are now private residences. Photos were all taken from a public footpath that goes around the site.

Yes there are people living in there. For years I drove past here with my father for driving lessons when we took my sister to horse riding lessons in the village where Karen and I now live. The windmill tower looked the same then with tarred bricks but there was always chap up on the top doing work on the roof and it didn't look fit for occupation - that was around 1975. I found an old photo of it online from 1972 which shows some of the wooden sail structure on the top looking a bit derelict. My father always pointed out the old windmill when we drove by but I never knew about the rest of the mill buildings for the water mill until recent years when I walked around there! History is always interesting
