Second Severn Crossing sunset

Hi All

Got hold of a nice new ND110 filter last week, but my trip to the Brecon Beacons on the weekend didn't offer any opportunities to use it. So, last night I went out to the Second Severn Crossing and tried it out.

Not ideal, as the high tide was a good hour later than when I was there, but I wanted to see how it performed on the 11-22.

Here's a solitary shot - opinions please. Heather was down on the riverbank!

Really nice sky and lighting on the bridge!

I'd crop the bottom quarter of the foreground out, and as Heather's white top is distracting, clone that out.

I quite like the composition and the colours are good, but it looks a bit blurred to my eyes.

Mind you I've just polished off a bottle of Banana Beer

I like it but I feel that it would have been better if Heather had been wearing something dark as my eyes keep switching from the bridge to her brightly coloured top.

Please forgive me Heather!

Looks really good John, well done.

I have to agree with Jim about the cropping. The foreshore is a bit too much distracting and if this is cropped out the pano effect would enhance the appearance of the bridge and sky.

I'll have to look out some vantage points on the other side and then arrange my trips to suit.

Yep - I'm afraid Heather will have to go - but a fine shot anyway.

Hehe, thanks all for the comments re Heather. She's gotta go, eh

I'll leave this image as it is for now though because it was only a test type shot to try out my new ND110 filter on the 11-22mm. I have better shots already of the second crossing, and will revisit again when the high tide coincides with the sunset. I'll check out an app I have on the iPhone or The Photographers Ephemeris for that info.

@John - the blur you see I think is caused by the long exposure. Heather has moved during the exposure (though I didn't ask her to stay still!!) and the clouds have also moved too.

For my money its a very good picture but possibly I would crop a little from the top and make it into a letter box frame, I am afraid Heather should go or change her coat to a less striking colour!
