    Even in 3D these fruiting bodies are still rather two-dimensional but that is their nature and they have colour and texture.

    I'm sure I've seen the orange one somewhere. Is it particular to one species of tree?

      I think it much more likely that you saw a yellow one, which grows on many species of tree:

      I nearly knelt on an emerging Fuligo on willow logs today when photographing a tiny fungus. It is the commonest slime mould I see.

        we have the white version in the wood here. ITs weird it looks like someone has been squirting that builders expanding foam on the trunk.

        Yes, it's a white form of the yellow species. I see mostly the yellow form.
