I'm probably in a small minority but I wasn't that keen on sponge cake and now I'm not allowed it! I miss a really good fruit cake though. Or Black Forest gateaux!

Lord, that takes me back. The cake competition at the annual village show.

The deal was everyone had to buy a bag of flour from the village shop and were then given an entry form and a copy of the recipe for that year.

You all made the same cakes, using the same flour(McDougals or whoever) and ingredients, then they were judged.

Having six of us entering from the same household meant we ate the same sort of cake for a month or more afterwards.

Good fun though. (Did I ever tell you how my cake turned out using plain flour ?)
