Wow! What fantastic detail, all those little drops of water too.

How did you get it to pose against a passport-ready background?

Definitely worth a 'we are not worthy' that shot

Crikey Nick, we're seeing a lot more shots taken with the 70-300 that are pin sharp of late - this is one of them.

Sorry John, this was the 50-200 + ec1.4, thanks.

Ellie - I was on my way back to the car as the rain came over, these pigeons lined up on a rail, there was nothing behind them but the sky. I just had to catch one (+ then the dogwalker scared them away) . The backgound is a shallow dof + nothing for at least 60ft (which is why I took the shots).

Thank you Barr1e, E1-Fan, I think the bird should take the credit, couldn't have posed better if I had asked.

Ahhhh, as I saw the EXIF as:

              Focal Length = 283/1 mm = 283.00 mm

I made an incorrect assumption, my apologies.

A beautiful shot ready for a pet passport.

I know what you mean about dog walkers but it definately was not me

                  Best regards

                    Re: Portrait Pigeon

This is a pigeon shot with the 70-300mm lens at 300mm. The pigeon was preening its right wing feathers at the time but as you see I interupted it (or was it my dog?).

Nice colour/texture across the chest caught by the angled light, pigeons are almost always such fun - even if they are often regarded as pests.

(If your dog is still chasing at pigeons, then I'm afraid there is no hope for it, doesn't it know it can't fly?)

Thanks Nick. Hope you don't mind me posting it but John was querying if your photo was with the 70-300 lens (which it isn't) so I thought I would give an example with this lens.

                        Kind regards

PS The dog is signing up for a crash course in flying. I don't think he will qualify though

Quite happy to see any pictures and showing a 70-300 image was appropriate to the thread.

As for the dog - well I noticed you included 'crash' in your desciption of the course.

Was the one with the 70-300 taken with the camera on a tripod?
