  • More challenging BIF's with the OM-1 (image heavy)

Still playing with the settings for BIF's on the OM-1 and still getting more success than any previous camera. The following set were of a small group of Turnstone more or less flying fast and directly (if erratically) towards and then past me. AF/bird detect locked onto the right hand bird despite my failing to predict where that bird would be in the frame. I was pretty happy with how the majority seem in focus (the birds were at about 20m range when they flew). Complete set (no dropped images), OM-1 300mm f4 PRO + 1.4TC & ISO 1600.

Though looking through these just before I post I reckon that 2 different birds flew through frame/focus in some of the earlier frames! They were VERY fast flying!

That's pretty impressive tracking. Did you use C-AF+TR or just plain C-AF? And what focus point array did you use?
    Thanks

Thanks for the info. I only tried C-AF+TR briefly and came to the conclusion that C-AF was more reliable, so I'm sticking with that until shown otherwise. I've swapped around between 'large' focus array and 'all points'. As the Bird Detection seems to work so well I'd be inclined to use all points, especially for birds as small and agile as your Turnstone.

Ditto. With my weeks use of the OM-1, C-AF was much better than the added TR bit..:-)

I noticed Peter Forsgard mentioned in a recent video on the OM-1 that he only used C-AF.

Thanks for sharing. I shall be using C-AF (non-TR) on the next occasion.
