Graveyard obsession

Does anyone else get graveyard fixation, particularly when the light is casting shadows? Asking for a friend. Oh and stacking chairs in churches.........asking for same friend. Tim

We have graves in our garden here in the Poitou Charentes. We are in a Protestant area of SW France and many chose to, or had to, be buried on home or other family land, historically.

Guilty I'm afraid

super shots , I used to love going to the one in highgate in London on misty mornings ,to many years ago now when I shot with a mamiyaflex c330 TLR ..

I do like photographing old graveslabs. I had to do a fair number with my work but all sadly on Nikon.
There is quite a problem in Scotland at the moment, probably elsewbere in the UK too. A few years ago some daft laddies were playing in a cemetery and one was crushed by an unstable stone and died. Very tragic, sadly.
Since then, the various councils and others who 'look after' the cemeteries have deliberately toppled unstable stones and are (very slowly) re-erecting them when they find some money. The stones were rarely built with decent foundations, often nothing and after a hundred years, the ground shifts and so to do the stones. The other sad side to this is that often when it comes to re-erection the stones are too damaged to be re-erected and its likely that the inscription has gone. It is then too easy for the grave to be 'tidied up' and it becomes an unmarked grave. A diminishing resource.

The headstones in our garden have also toppled over. My understanding is that nobody has been to visit them for over 11 years. Another house we looked at also had some graves and these were regularly tended to, so the owner of the house created a special area around the graves, complete with a private entrance.
