Got this at a local camera club meeting last night.
Just tweaked the contrast shadows clarity and brightness in lightroom. Didn't need to tweak any of the colour sliders amazingly!

        Thanks guys.
Here's another shot of the same bubbles but a few seconds earlier. Same Lightroom settings applied as the previous shot.

And the last one before they all burst.
Didn't boost the clarity on this one so the water film surfaces don't show as much. I think this is my favourite of the bunch.

Yes Andy it was the 60mm macro. The few where the flash failed to fire are interesting too. The creased fabric of the light box used shows up in the bubble surface, very weird.

In the interests of completeness here's one where the flash failed. The illumination was just using an led panel we'd set up to allow focussing in the dark. Note the grey creased fabric reflections in the spherical bubble.

I'd be interested to know the technique. I fancy having a go.

I can't remember what the soap mix was Duncan but I'll ask Andy (the guy who set it up) again as I will have another go at home too. The bubbles lasted for ages. The lighting was mainly by an overhead wireless flash unit with a soft box type of cover. Then he also used a small led light panel at bubble level horrizontally off to the side on the right as a solid light to aid focussing in the fairly dark pub we were in. It was the overhead flash that really showed off the soap film colours. The bubbles were blown using a drinking straw.

Sounds like a child's bubble mix. I'll give it a bash although I don't have a soft box but I'll use adiffuser version of my reflector.
Your camera club sounds good meeting in a pub. 🙂

Hi Duncan, the magic mix was 1 part fairy liquid, 2 parts water with a touch of glycerine to make the bubbles last longer. Yes the club is great, really informal with lots of helpful members, and quite a growing Olympus owning crowd.

Excellent images Phill D The first with the flash certainly works best imho.

What was the diameter of the bubble?

Thanks Dave, the bubble was quite large about 40mm across. It was in a lens cap, not sure what brand though.

Topic or subject Henry both are equaly valid. Definitely not tropic though.

We used to have a member, brian1208 , who had a spell of doing bubble photography. He tried a variety of approaches and got some very interesting results. He was a prolific poster but it looks as though we haven't seen him for several years. I could only find one thread about his bubble shots when I searched for his posts.

No he doesn't seem to have posted on here for a few years now. Hopefully just a change of system.
