  • Scarecrow and Barn

I stopped off today to get some shots in a village I always pass through on the way to my main birding location. The tractor tyre scarecrow is all that remains of last years village scarecrow competition. There was a great range of entries, will try and get some more this year. The ancient preserved barn is an unusual design and features on the village sign.

What a splendid structure the old barn is. They certainly don't make them like that anymore. The two pics of the barn make me curious to see the view through the barn to the pond. Did you take that shot?

      Hi ewan
How did you know I took those shots?
I didn't upload them as the view outside was overexposed. I was trying to capture the interesting detail in the woodwork with my new ZD 9-18 mm which I am trying to get to grips with. I will try to do some local history research and find out more about the barn.

        Re: Scarecrow and Barn

        Hi again ewan
I've done some quick research on the internet ( wonderful thing isn't it ) and discovered that the "barn" is actually a 17 century " cart lodge with hayloft".

            Hi Peter.
Curiosity satisfied, a good set of images of the 'cart lodge' [never heard of one of them before]. I like the textures of the timbers and thatch. Looks like there's been some repairs and extra support over the years.....well worth saving.

            Thanks, Ewan
