  • Mandarin Ducks

There is one pond over the forest that has about twelve pairs of these colorful ducks.I believe they were introduced from China in the 1930's.
Why they only stay on one pond and how they got there in the first place I do not know.
They seem to be doing very well as every year there seems to be a few more.
They are much more timid than the Mallards and Coots on the pond so never come close to you even if offered food.

    All with E3,50-200 and EC14
    All the best

    Very Nice !!

The simplicity of the single figure in the 4th shot is very nice and I think my favorite, although I have to admit that it looks like you lost the sun for that one as the colours are a little muted. In terms of that the 1st is my preference

    More Please !!

The pond is totally surrounded by trees and in these days of the sun being so low in the sky I had to just fire away.I agree that when the sun is on them it makes a lot of difference to the colors.

Yup I know the problem - I have 35mm Shots of Mandarins I took at Cannop Ponds in the forest of Dean and even more I took down at the WWT in Llanelli ( I must return to these places now I've gone digital )

        They are just SOooo Photogenic

Very nice, but I almost need to be convinced you haven't carved them from wood and painted them!

I have to agree with Nick that they look unreal as if plated. Closer examination of photo 4 reveals the fine feather detail near the waterline.

            Well done

                Oh my, they're wonderful.

My absolute favourite is the one on its own, the reflection on that one seems nice than any of the others too.
