Just love the detail on both, and the colours are divine. That's a great style Paul...:-)

A little dark for me and both would benefit from cropping some clutter out of the foreground, The first does not need the blurred vegetation on the left of the weir and the dead vegetation at the bottom of the of the second

Well spotted Alf, a little cropping at the bottom of both makes sense.

Nicely done, Paul. # 1 for me too. Gosh, those colors, clouds and reflections in BOTH are super.
I know you didn't ask, but for the second one, I would crop both the right and left out and change the orientation to a vertical composition. It would focus on the leading lines and beautiful light down river. Or just eliminate the left one-third of the composition. Maybe the waterfall doesn't need to be in this composition, with that nice Curved River.

                Are these better crops?

IMHO, photo #1 was perfect. I would have left it as is. (Photo 1, was the one on top)
I think your new crop for photo#2 I is an improvement.

I agree with Luv2shoot's comment - original crop of the 1st and the re-crop of the 2nd. Both are fantastic, I love them both
