    First time I have even seen a Stoat and I still had the E510 and Sigma 135-400 to hand to get a couple of hand held shots off.

    Wow - an excellent shot there Keith Fantastic subject matter, gorgeous late afternoon colours and a background nicely out of focus.

    I like that a lot - I just wish I got that lucky when I'm out with the camera!

    Well done

          Re: 100%

          Thanks everyone...

          Gavin....Sorry I forgot to put the details on...It was hand held @ f5.6,1/60, iso 400 and 400mm with spot metering.
          This was virtually the settings I had been using from a hide at birds.It was mainly a dull afternoon yesterday but as I was walking back I spotted a movement around these wheelbarrow wheels and it popped up ...ran away and then back underneath.I was still wandering what it was when it showed again and I got 4 shots off.The sun must have come out during this but as we were under trees I did not really notice.I waited a couple of minutes but it did not show again.
          Everytime I go here again guess where I will stop for a while........but I think I have had a once in a lifetime experience.

          Thanks
          Keith

                  To have been in the right place at the right time would have pleased me enough;
                  To have had a camera to hand without frightening the animal even better;
                  To have then had a bit of sunlight in just the right place, would have me screaming with joy;
                  But to have got such a clear detailed shot, with the colours so good, and the composition so spot on, well I guess would have me sorting out my entry for the UK Wildlife Photographer Competition or the like. This to me is far better than any wolf jumping gates - love it!

                        Re: 100%

                        Great shot, Keith - those animals are elusive at the best of times. I had my encounter of a lifetime once. I was out walking when suddenly I saw it about 20 feet away, dragging a dead rabbit (which I assume it had just killed) across the lane I was on. The moment it saw me it darted into the undergrowth. I sat down and waited, assuming it would be back for its dinner and sure enough, about 10 minutes later it re-appeared. I sat transfixed, hardly daring to breathe, until it had finally dragged the rabbit to the other side and disappeared through the hedge.

                        I'd like to say that I was sitting with camera ready, but I didn't have it with me that day! The moral is that we all get our fair share of opportunities; some of us take them but many of us waste them. I sound like the fisherman and "the one that got away" but I was really just grateful to have seen it.

                        Yes Keith, what you have here is a really special shot.

                            Thanks again everyone...

                            David....Proud and glad I managed to do a few things right to nab him.

                            John......A friend had a similar experience with a Stoat and Rabbit and had a 1/4 of an hour with it and his camera.He got some outstanding shots.
                            I AM glad I got a decent shot but as you say it's a pleasure just to see one.
