What a lovely set. It illustrates perfectly why they make such great subjects, especially in the situation we all find ourselves in today, as, apart from the odd dog walker and fisherman, you have them virtually to yourself. I can not pick a favourite, they are all good. Super edits also BTW.

Thanks all. I tend to go out very early to local locations to minimise risk under the current rules. The canal was a discovery this year and I love going back to it. Ambition is to get there at sunrise on a cold day to capture rising mist.

I don't know the Stroudwater either, but these lovely pics make it look very attractive. Some of it has already been restored to navigation I believe and further restoration is under way. This weird and horrible year is the first since 1975 that I haven't been able to have a canal holiday. We had one booked in late June but of course that was not possible. I have suffered withdrawl symptoms! As for canals being tranquil places where you hardly see anyone apart from the odd dog walker or fisherman, try the Regent's Canal in London. You're lucky to escape without being knocked by the scores of runners and cyclists that use the towpaths daily
.

Richard

I had a cabin cruiser moored on the Regents Canal in the yacht basin at St Pancras lock behind Kings Cross station.Originally posted by Otto View PostI don't know the Stroudwater either, but these lovely pics make it look very attractive. Like a little oasis in the centre of London, nice place to while away the hours with the occasional cruise out into the countryside.
Also recently spent a week in Gloucestershire, went for a few exploration wanders along the disused Severn and Thames canal.
Looking at the nice photos above should have ventured out to this canal too, maybe another time.
