  • Studley Royal Deer Park E-M1X 100-400

First outing of the year to Studley Royal Deer Park. Wasn't expecting any rutting, too early. It had been forcast for a good sunrise, so I thought I would take the chance.
As it happened the sunrise didn't happen as I wanted, it was cloudy initially but then the sun broke through and gave really good light for a short time.
I had to try and get in position to use the best of it before it got too hign and lost the glow.

All taken with E-M1X and 100-400mm

Wow, some super shots there. Last but one is the winner! What ISO did you use?

Thanks. Most were ISO 500 to 640. The last one is ISO 1600 as I needed to up the shutter speed.

Lovely shots. Reminds me of my time in the late 60's when I lived in Ripon. Used to walk to Studley Royal with our kids on a Sunday. Happy memories.

Fabulous images. Much more interesting than the usual shots of deer.

Yes magical shots Dereck. #3 & #4 are my favourites but only by a shade as they are all excellent.

#5 is my favourite, as as Phill says, only by a margin. How close did you get? Amazed you could get with any short distance. My deer photos in Margam had to be taken 100 yds + as they were so skittish...

Thank Mark. The extra range of the 100-400 certainly helps compress the distance. Although deer in parks are used to people you still have move slowly and sit quietly for sometime. The Sika deer are more skittish than the Reds

Great images, particularly liked the rim light in one and the side lighting on 3 and 4.

Impressive, Derek! The last one definitely has the wow factor but all of them are excellent. I was stuck in Ripon on Wednesday as my car needed a major service. I walked the length of the Ripon Canal but didn't think of Studley Park. In any case it had become a a filthy wet day by the time I finished the canal so even if the park had been open the camera would have got little use. As it was, I was bored silly because everything other than the cathedral was shut, including the garage's customer waiting area!
