  • Fisheye meets the snow!

After yesterday's (laborious) wander with ZD 300mm f/2.8, today the less weighty delights of the ZD 8mm fisheye lens

    Comments welcome!:

Carelessly composed I know, but I think the idea has potential!

Back on the Grand Unions Canal, but oddly this shot almost has no fishete feel to it.

This time I decided to warm the image up.

This is even warmer, but I like the result.

The branches that formed a spindly hand attracted my attention.

Finally, a view of the bridge over the canal in to the Paper Mill complex.

I think I will have some fun trying to get the most out of the fisheye.

This is a lens I want to hire in the spring! I`ve always wanted one, but can`t justify the price for the amount of use it would get, so hiring is definately the route to go for me with this one.

Ian, talk about going from one extreme to the other - is this some sort of subtle advertizing for the hire service?

No 6 is my favourite although I agree that the idea behind No 1 has enormous potential.

Like Edward I'll probably be tempted to hire this lens at some stage - more so since I've seen these pics so if that's your strategy it's certianly working!

What will you use tomorrow - something like the 35-100mm or 90-250mm I suppose?

I think only the first shot actually have this 'fisheye feel', am really surprised how 'unfisheye' this lens is, or it could just be the landscape composition

I like number 1 best - Rubbish fish eye view.

So you don't think 3 & 4 are fisheye in character? - I'd have said it was quite pronounced! No 6 has it but much more subtle, probably why it is my favourite.

I agree, 3 and 4 is quite but it just doesn't give quite as much of a feel as if subjects are closer (like number 1). It feels more like a distorted UWA lens than a wider field angle like a fisheye. You get what I mean?

Oh yes, I quite agree. Any super-wide, but especially a fish-eye, is just made for real up-close foregrounds with tons of impact and perspective distortion!
