  • The Day of the Covids

The slightly misquoted title came to me as I drove out of town into the solace of the bush.*
Those of you who are familiar with John Wyndham's classic sci-fi novel will know where I'm coming from.

On the way to the falls by Mark Greenhill, on Flickr

It's a 60km drive from Wang' to Paradise Falls, and a 200 metre trek down a steep dangerous track to view them..
I've visited this attraction a number of times over the years but never before has it been completely dry and indeed devoid of visitors.

Terrain by Mark Greenhill, on Flickr

The white splodges on the cliff face are the droppings of Peregrine Falcons that swoop on their prey in the valley below.
Not ever having been there in the early morning or late afternoon, I have never had the privilege of witnessing their lightning strike.

Lovely shots Mark and an interesting title. Wouldn't want to be there alone , didn't read the book but saw the old film!

        I know what you mean.
It's more than just the genius who took it.

Thanks Phill, actually nothing there to be afraid of except the rugged terrain and the risk of a fall.
I read the book as a kid as well as Chrysalids, Kraken Wakes and Trouble with Lichen. I was a big fan of Wyndham and sci-fi in general.
