  • HDR experiment Derelict buildings. (3 Imgs)

    Hi,

I haven't had too much success with HDR, and was looking for an opportunity to go into an old building to try it out, as the subject seemed more suitable.

I was taking some HDR external shots of a canal, and noticed the buildings opposite were empty and to be demolished:

So, I sneaked in and got some shots.

That's solid ice around the raised "bathroom" area, complete with frozen solid blanket.

I have a few more in the gallery. Overall I am happy: moreso because for me this is exactly what I wanted to achieve and it worked!

I wasn't asked to leave before I was on my way down the stairs, finished!

Love the 2nd and 3rd shots I think the HDR effect works great on these types of photos, it has really picked out all the detail

These work very well. Derelict buidings often, in my opinion, make the best subjects for judicious HDR treatment.

What are you using to build your HDRs?

            Like this?

Thanks! I have been so used to seeing the buildings not vertical with the 9-18mm that I hadn't really noticed!

            Much better now!

These were from out of camera .jpg files:

Photomatix Pro 3, painterly effect, then Nik software Color Effex Pro 3 Tonal or Pro contrast - depends on the colours.

At each stage, I play with the sliders to get a look I like.

Nothing else required. Hope this helps.

That first shot caught my eye much more then the interior shots, I like it a lot. I think the interior shots are a bit HDR'y for my taste.

Here's the shadows/highlights and tonal contrast only for the two I supplied.

For my purposes, I wanted a more surreal light and colour on this otherwise bleak subject.

They are two great shots and I prefer the reworked appearance of the last post.

That sort of domestic scene says something about life and promise,

Nice shots. I'd love to do more derelict buildings but they don't hang around long out my way. My only comment would be the treatment of the subject matter. I personally would go for darker contrast and washed out colours or perhaps mono to give a real sense of decay and entropy.

I wanted to try bleach bypass effects and the like. No time!
I'll give it a go and post when I do. Again, time!
