  • Fore!!

I have attempted to take photos at Rugby matches before for the local club and to an extent come out with some reasonable images.
Recently I had the opportunity to take some shots at a local golf tournament, so I thought ... why not, what's the worst that could happen .... apart from being hit by an irate golfer as the sound of the shutter put him off!
With that in mind I grabbed the 70-300 to make sure I could be far enough away so that didn't happen.

Anyway, here are a few shots ..... for my first attempt at golf I don't think they were too bad, let me know what you think.

(had a bit of a pay with the colours on this one)

and ... I never knew you had to be a contortionist to play golf!!

this is only my second post of pictures, so be gentle .... but be honest!

    Richard.

I don't golf, but these are nice action captures

I think the last one is a little tight on the left, but in general I think an interesting set

        Re: Fore!!

        They're really good.

I've followed hubby round the golf course hoping to get some decent shots, but I can't seem to get the settings right, and always end up wandering off to take pictures of flowers and foliage instead.

        What settings/camera/lens do you use?

I cropped it in order to remove the guys golf bag, unfortunately I couldn't move further round without getting in the eye line. I noticed he tended to play quite a large draw on his tee shots and I didn't fancy the ball setting off over my head!
I think I like the shot due to the position he is in ..... at first glance it looks like he is going to break something!

The lens was the zuiko 70-300 and to start with I cheated and put the E500 in sport mode. I know I shouldn't but I wanted to get a few pics before playing with the settings.
Aperture was between f4 and f5.5, shutter between 1/500 and 1/640.
It was a bright day so I had to add between -0.3 and -0.7 exposure comp.
thinking back I really should have played more with the ISO speed but you can't exactly ask them "can you play that shot again I want to change a setting"

There is another comp today, unfortunately I'm playing so I won't e able to try again!

I agree with Edward that No 2 is the best picture. Love the sense of action as the sand follows the golf ball into the air!

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated.

I understand the thoughts on picture no.2 The sand flying out of the bunker does give a sense of action.
From a golfers point of view I think no.1 is good as it shows the flex created in the shaft of the club as you transfer from the back swing to the down swing.
Think I might have to point out to my Dad that he has got the club face closed a bit too much at the top of his swing!

That is a terrible swing in the last one, needs a visit to the local pro for a lesson or two
