  • Gone off the rails

I must have cycled over this level crossing hundreds of times. Often I have thought that it might make a decent subject so this morning I set off armed. What do you think?

I agree. The first picture is much better.

The 'Whistle' sign in the second is distracting.

I think the first picture is amazing, I'm assuming it's HDR.

It also looks as if it's frosty, although I can't imagine it was that cold and it's just the way the light is striking the right hand side of the picture

            Re: Gone off the rails

I also prefer the top one.

For me the composition is interesting. The lines obviously draw you in, but the HDR effect sees to have given it an overexposed look

I'd try darkening it or dropping the gamma a little to bring some darkness back

              Re: Gone off the rails

I have to say I prefer the first one, the colours/effects give the picture a very interesting quality.
The lines of the track and the edges of the embankments draw your eyes in and the bright light at the end of the line leaves you wondering.

              Great shot

                Re: Gone off the rails

Thanks to all for taking the trouble to comment. Some useful criticism here. I have to agree with NN about the Whistle sign it immediately attracts the eye when one should be following the rails into the far distance, I will try a different crop.

Andy - I will experiment. You are all most helpful.
