  • Beter Late Than Never

Not perfect, but at least it got me out. Having problems at the moment motivating myself and I really should have been there at least an hour and a half earlier for this shot. As it was, I took this at the disgustingly late time of 9.30 am. Inexcusable, I know, but at the moment it's a case of better late than never.

Very nice John. The lighting was excellant to bring out the colours. The image is well balanced and the track turning left before the trees draws the eye into the image.

      Nice shot John

I might be inclined to quibble that the rhs needs to be crop'd (or framed) slightly closer to the tree - that edge feels like unfinished business - I don't know what happens next. But that's just nit picking.

Not sure I've ever bought into this 2 hrs after sunrise and the hour around sunset lark. OK that gives a certain light effect, but is England really only photogenic for 3 hrs a day. Seems like a good idea that has become a straitjacket.

I really like this photo just as it is .... and ..... England is always photographic, good weather or bad, before noon or afternoon or even better, after tea!!

Thanks guys for your encouraging comments.

Nick, you raise a very pertinent question about the accepted times for landscape photography. Too many sunset, sunrise, pre dawn glow or magic hour images can become a cliche and that's not what I was aiming for in this photograph.

Nevertheless, it's a scene that I drive past on the way to work every day and I've seen it looking better at 7.45am than when I took it at 9.30am. It's not just the warmer colour rendition (I could replicate that in Photoshop) but somehow at the earlier time the light has a crisper, cleaner, almost indefinable quality that my image lacks. I feel I should do the penance of a week of pre-dawn glows for my tardiness!
