  • Asterophoroa lycoperdoides, a Mushroom Parasitic on Mushrooms

This is one of two species of Asterophora parasitic in mushrooms, mainly on Russula species.

The lumpy, rock-like background is the decaying cap of the host. The brown, tree trunk-like structure is the stem of the host.

    The stereos are crosseye.

    Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/50 at f11 ISO 1000, hand-held.

      Thanks, Mark.

"Mushroom" has nothing to do, directly, with edibility. Some are, some aren't and you have to know which are which. In specialist circles it means the larger fungi, "larger" meaning ca 1mm upwards.

I don't remember the original being that 3D but it was all a bit rushed, with the light changing in between shots (some adjusted).

It's said that if you must gather fungi for eating - take three. One for yourself, the second for the hospital and the third for the coroner!
