  • Lake District trip

Just returned from a weekend in the Central lakes. Stayed on Van site at Shoulthwaite Farm near Thirlmere. I can recommend the walk that takes you through the farmyard and into the forest then follow the path onward and upward to the summit of Raven Crag with fantastic views of Thirlmere and the surrounding area.

The squirrel and chaffinch photos were taken at the Caravan site at the feeders just off the path.

    the above taken with e3 + 70 -300

    The views with the e3 + 17.5 - 45

(as an aside - is there a lens hood available for the 17.5 - 45?)

That last shot's the best of the landscapes I think, that's Iron Crag on the left - a very forbidding crag in real life and it looks that way on the shot.

The first squirrel shot is excellent as well, I'm still waiting for a decent Red Squirrel shot, I don't think I get up early enough, there are plenty around where I live.

I havent seen an olympus hood for this lens but I think you could order a rubber one which matches the filter size, most shops i.e Jessops do them

          Regards

Thanks Jim for that tip. Unfortunately, I cannot hurl a stone 50 miles or so

Thanks folks for the comments. I sent the first squirrel shot to Pip who does the weather forecasting for Border TV Lookaround and it featured on Weds Lookaround programme

Congratulations, they're fine pictures of these gorgeous squirrels

I'm hoping somebody will organise a trip to Brownsea Island this year, it's likely to be the best chance of seeing any down here.
