  • Thames HDR

Just a couple from my walk from Tower Bridge to Greenwich yesterday.

    1 From Tower Bridge

    2 Canery wharf.

Spent the day dodging the showers.

Both with the 7-14mm and processed in Photomatix.

Yes, I like these a lot. I love HDR used well; whether its subtlety applied or used more creatively.

Very nice Andy. The 7-14mm shows it's distortion on the verticals (second shot mainly). I would suggest correcting the perspective distortion to improve the shot.

Lovely shots there Andy, great use of photomatix too. Love the wideness of the excellent 7-14mm.

Great images - must try HDR one day.

In the first image there's a small patch of blue sky showing that's just right of centre. It slightly distracting, and I wonder if de-saturating it would help.

I quite liked the edge distortion in the originals too - it helped accentuate the idea of a blustery, windswept grey day that along with the muddy Thames is conveyed very well in these shots IMO.

                  Thanks for the comments everyone.

I still can't make up my mind if I prefer the one with the perspective adjusted or not.

Nice photo's Andy. I like #2 corrected best. Are you setting the bracketing for +1 and -1. Or are you going reseting and going for a higher difference?

                      Hi Danny

These are from one Raw file, converted into a JPEG and the copied into three images and set at -1,0,and +1 in photomatix.

If I had had a tripod with me I would have bracketed probably five frames with EV set to -1 so the pictures come out at -3 to +1.

As this was going to be a long walk and I had the 7-14,12-60 and the 50-200 and some food and drink with me I didn't feel like lugging a tripod around as well.

Andy, terrific images with just a hint of HDR.

Interesting only done from one raw exposure.

Must try this, something to aspire to.

It's not very often that you see the river looking that colour, which is very close to how I remember it was last week when I was up there.

Again your "walkabout" shots are very inspirational. I need to get out more...

                            Andy these are cracking.

I especially like the first one, gives a real feeling of racing up the river (i'm guessing you were on a bridge?).
I like the first take on the second shot, I know the verticals aren't straight, but i think it works all the same. The buildings seem like a wee flash of colour in a stormy sky and landscape.

Really liking the processing you've done, it enhances the shots 110%.

                            Brilliant
