      Thanks Phil, but I think the congratulations belong to the camera / lens combo and fast focusing. All I did was to keep tripping the shutter.

        Interesting. I didn’t think you could focus that close at a long focal length. Artistic score: I’m not sure. From a practical perspective, a good textbook image of the subject?

          Yes indeed you can, I've just been into my garden to see how close I could focus on a flower; under a metre at 210mm.
          On the artistic score, well I was just 'doodling' so to speak, as at the time all the damned birds appeared to be grounded. The Hoverfly was the only thing airborne!

            Not the best shot of a hoverfly in flight I have seen but itmakes for interesting reading
