  • Bearded Tit

This is the male from a pair of Bearded Tits which made a very brief appearance in the reeds at Titchwell last week. I was too slow to catch the female but I was pleased to get a couple of shots of the male. And, yes, it does look more like a moustache than a beard.

    E-M1 II, 300mm f/4 and MC-14.

Great shots - makes me envious.

(The tit in the last one looks somehow malevolent!)

      Re: Bearded Tit

Many thanks for the comment Jim and the 'likes'. I have just realised that these are the only Bearded Tits that I have seen this year. They were badly affected by the cold weather last winter and are only now returning to the locations where I usually see them. It will be nice to hear them 'pinging' in the reeds again.

Nice shots, does look a bit Dali style moustache rather than a beard!

Great photos Ron. And well caught. Never seen one in the wild at all before.

What an extraordinary looking bird doing a pole vault it would seem!

They are very agile little birds and very adept at making their way through reeds. I have seen photos of them straddling two reeds with their legs out at 45 degrees either side of their body. It looks very painful.

Nice anecdote Mark (F). I suppose I could have used their alternative name Bearded Reedlings but where's the fun in that?
