Mountain Hares - The fight to breed.

Whilst in the Cairngorms earlier this year, I was fortunate enough to witness a very determined male Mountain Hare trying to force a female to mate with him.

The female Hare was having none of it and one heck of a fight ensued, these are a few images from the tussle.

You could have settled it for them, Davy - shoot one with the camera, the other with a gun, just think, jugged hare! Beware the Gamekeeper though ...

I think the female gave as good as she got in this instance Paul, the male didn't manage to mate with her.
