Many thanks for the kind comments. The small AF point certainly makes a huge difference with focusing, although I was having problems holding the lens steady to get the focus point on the bird's eye when I was standing in the open. It was easier when I could lean against one of the posts to brace myself. Old age!

I don't have the 300mm, but I do have the Panasonic 100-400mm. I find a monopod is invaluable to help take the load.Originally posted by Olybirder View PostMany thanks for the kind comments. A monopod would certainly help to support the camera but I like to walk about with the camera in a shoulder holster, leaving my hands free to use binoculars.
