  • The Wheatears are back

I finally came across my first Wheatears of the year. Three of them were feeding by the old net drying posts at Lowestoft a few days ago. It's good to see them back again.

    E-M1, 300mm f4 and MC-14.

The first two are superb - I like them very much.

    ..
Just like that - gone in a flash! Now in use.

All are lovely. First two shine out as the background makes the bird stand out more.........

Excellent detail and the focus is spot on.

Many thanks for the kind comments. The small AF point certainly makes a huge difference with focusing, although I was having problems holding the lens steady to get the focus point on the bird's eye when I was standing in the open. It was easier when I could lean against one of the posts to brace myself. Old age!

I don't have the 300mm, but I do have the Panasonic 100-400mm. I find a monopod is invaluable to help take the load.

A monopod would certainly help to support the camera but I like to walk about with the camera in a shoulder holster, leaving my hands free to use binoculars. A monopod or tripod would be something else to carry, which I am trying to avoid.

I love those little birds - amazing migrators, too.
