  • This is what I have been shooting most of this year

the main reason I was away for the site so much was that I seem to have fallen into the role of unofficial photographer for our local Windsurfers and
kiters (along with another lad who set up Avon Beach Surfers)

This has involved much standing on our local beach in howling winds, rain, salt spray with flying sand & seaweed which as been a good test of the weather sealing of the EM-1 mk2 when used with either the PL100 - 400 or Oly 40-150 pro. Use of a protection filter has been needed for a lot of the work and in the very worst conditions a cheap rain-cover has come in handy but what an outstanding system we have for this sort of work

One a bit over the top but which the riders all thought summarised how they experienced the day (there were over 60 of them out at one point! )

It really was that wild, all I've done is to add the cloud filter layer to add a bit of drama.

Despite all the challenges the camera came back from its free Pro Service without any remedial work having been needed - top marks Olympus!

I would think that if the last one was cropped just to show the central figure with the foam and cloud, that it would make a good magazine cover! Maybe also clone out the two sails in the background on the left.

Thanks Jim, good thoughts for a crop but for me the pic needed to be as it as for its target audience.

I wanted to show the level of activity, interaction and the intensity of the sailing conditions for the riders to enjoy and show to their families

Thanks John, I don't often muck about with my pics but that one was a bit special

Yep, it has been mounted and framed and was in our club's annual public exhibition where it got the Public Vote (much to the chagrin of some of the more "Traditional" photographers, who were not enthused by it )

Excellent work Brian. I like the simplicity of the first one in combination with the water colour.

It is rare to see the water that colour as its usually a rather revolting yellow / brown tint (sandy bottoms over silt in places) but with contra jour light (what there was of it) and the height and motion of the waves it cleaned the sea up nicely

They are all superb shots but that last one is just a bit special cropped or uncropped it's a beaut.
