Way-hey ! A clear(ish) sky around Lincoln after 11pm last night (25th) so I went chasing the Milky Way (again). Camera was an EM1-2 fitted with Samyang 7.5mm f3.5 lens.
OK, tried local around Sturton-by-Stow, but plagued by mist from river and off fields, so went uphill to the viewpoint by Scampton turnoff. Milky Way was roughly SE. Could see a fuzzy patch of sky in the right direction so went for it (this was about 1AM). No moon tonight, good.
Iso set to 3200 @ 10 secs. Camera insisted on doing auto noise reduction on every shot (bit of a time waste there), must find out how to cancel that setting.
Got home and looked at reults - first error, had live view boost set to 'on' so I could see what I was taking a picture of. Of course, the taken image was not the same as on the screen ... like it says in the manual.
Next problem was my old copy of Lightroom 5 would not read Olympus .orf files. So convert the raw files to .dng using free Adobe converter. Now can read them with Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS1.
Here is a sample image - as OOC. Had to lift exposure by 3 stops to see it better.

So I raised the exposure by 3 stops and got this image -

So now I can see part of the Milky Way, but is looks like daylight and is as noisy as heck. It took a bit of messing, but eventually I made a better version of it.
First I toned down the bottom of the image using NikFX / Grad ND filter, then added a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer in Photoshop to bring out the Milky way and tone down the rest. Finally I used NikFX / Dfine to reduce the noise.
Here is the final result. Comments please, with (hopefully) an easier way of achieving similar images in the future.

Just a thought, how easy is it to use the Olympus image processing software ?
