      Re: A trip to Greenwich

Thanks. Like Intentional Camera Movement in general you have to take loads of shots since the effect is so unpredictable. I got a couple more that I quite like, but I shot around 300 on the return trip to Lewisham from Bank.

BTW I did my usual rough noting of what cameras had been used for the 200(?) images in the exhibition. Overwhelmingly Canikon DSLRs (although it was only around 60% in favour of Canon).

On the mirrorless side there was one Olympus E-M10, one Leica Q, one Ricoh GR, one Sony NEX3 and a Samsung NX mini. As well as a few drone images, there was a special phone section this time.

So, mirrorless is still to make any real impact here, which I'm beginning to find very surprising. A couple of years ago I went to one of their evening events and spoke to one of the judges about this. He used Fuji, and said that the balance among the winners roughly matched that of the submitted images, and I've no reason to doubt him.

Oh yes, the overall winner's portfolio was taken on a Fuji X-Pro2: since the competition is sponsored by Fuji, I'm discounting that!

It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

It shouldn't matter what you use, DSLR, mirrorless, RFF or whatever, as long as you don't need long hours on a simulator to learn how to use it.

Have you tried zoom blur? This one from inside the Mirazozo in the "old days" pre stabilisation!

Hand held with a Nikon D3, should be easier with 5 axis...

Sure, Steve, I absolutely agree with you, but m4/3 and crop-sensor mirrorless cameras are widely advocated for travel photography on account of their size and weight advantages.

Unlike some other features, you can't get round the size and weight advantages of, say, an E-M10ii and 14-42 (even though the difference for some carefully-picked crop-sensor DSLR alternatives isn't that great, especially when you factor in the weight of all those spare batteries).

I know quite a few ardent DSLR users who have bought m4/3 cameras precisely for this purpose, and they prefer them over point-and-shoots because of their speed of operation, handling and better low-light performance.

So, I am surprised now we're not seeing more mirrorless camera users in this competition.

Is that the National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year?

I'd never heard of the competition until I saw something about it on fstoppers.
