Just tried out the Meike extension tubes I got from Dave in Wales recently. This was a quick trial shot of a small strawberry flower about 15mm across petals about 5mm across the centre. I used both 10 & 16mm tubes and had the lens at 150mm. No idea what real mag that would be but the image on my screen was about 10x these sizes. DoF was pretty small though so it looks like a good candidate for a focus stacking experiment. Bit too windy to try on these today though.

Yes I was quite pleased with the detail too. Certainly looks promising for macro shots. That DoF though is really thin it's going to take a lot of very close stacks to get a larger DoF.

Re: Extension tubes on 40-150
With the 26mm extension tubes it looks to be about 17.5mm/28.5mm = 0.61x using the lens at 150mm and with the 1.4x converter on as well. Images of our carpet look quite good for detail but I'm surprised the mag is so small and actually not even more than x1.
Without the tubes it is 17.5mm/55mm = 0.32 so the 26mm tubes give me about twice the mag of the lens and converter alone.
Interesting but I'm just surprised it wasn't more absolute magnification. Plus just shows how good my old 35mm 4/3s macro lens was at achieving 1:1.

Re: Extension tubes on 40-150
A while back I bought a fairly cheap set of close up add-on lenses. I use them on the 40-150, and I found them quite good. I could get really good magnification, but didn't need the lens too close. DoF was acceptable, and they allowed me to stop down more than I would expect from tubes, so I could actually stop down the lens more. Just a thought!

Well shot other than being a touch overexposed Phil

Thanks Alf, it was the pro lens and yes you are correct I was a bit careless and blew out the highlights a tad I'm afraid.
