  • The Fairy Dell Where Light Bulbs Grow

This hollow tree stump has a colony of slime moulds. It was only when I zoomed in close on the processed image that I realised the close resemblance of the fruiting bodies to domestic incandescent, pearl light bulbs, complete with bayonet fitting.

When I took the pictures I was fairly sure that they were a Trichia species. A search confirmed them as T. varia, which, as the name suggests comes in various colours and shapes. The bodies are 1-2mm long.

    EM-1 (manual mode), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, twin TTL flash, hand-held.

Great shot. Obviously this is where the EU have hidden all the proper light bulbs we used to use

      Thanks.

There's recycling and then there's recycling. I much prefer the latter option.
It's not what inspires us that is important, it's where the journey takes us.
