        Thank you for stopping by Rod and Shirley.
        It is only 15 cm (6") of water and 45 cm (18") of mud... and the ice did not really break. This one was shot with the E-3 and ZD 50/f2 Shirley.

                People are skating on frozen canals and lakes for almost a week now. It's the Dutch's National Winter Pastime!

                  I worked in the Netherlands for some time a few years ago at Hilversum.Lots of people talked about the canals freezing but I never saw it myself.

                  Must be great for photos.

                  Even with the cold weather we have in the UK at the moment I dont think I'd risk going on the ice

                    It's not every winter that the ice is safe enough for skating. Our national news broadcast has a contest for the best snow / ice skate photo, the entries give a nice impression how people enjoy themselves on the ice:
